You Might Be a Runner IF...

Things were slightly more tame today, unfortunately. I did my long run today and was hoping to do 14 or 16 and be back on marathon schedule. I quit after 9 ~ my feet still can't take the really long distances. Disappointing since I had tons of energy and felt like I could have made it easily, but they were well on their way to a melt down. I figured why do so much damage I can't walk for a day and a half. I am quickly coming to terms with doing the 1/2 in a few weeks and just continuing to build up strength. I also might try taping my arches...
In other news, I lost my toenail from the blister fiasco. I thought I would be grossed out but when it happened, I was sort of weirdly proud. I told my husband that I thought it was kind of cool and made me feel like a true runner. Or maybe it just makes me an idiot who should have fixed the problem before it got out of hand? Oh well, I choose the former!

Bummer on the scheduled 14/16 miler. I know exactly what you mean though. Having the rest of your body just want to GO but having this small part part that is crying out in misery. Totally stinks. You will ROCK the 1/2!!! No doubt!! ;D ;D
Really? You weren't grossed out by the loss of a toenail? OMG just thinking of it makes me cringe. Eeeekkkkkk LOL
I don't know anything about orthotics, but I know people swear by them - have you considered them? (you may have already posted about this long ago, but I'm new to your blog, sorry).
One more sign you are a runner, check.
I also think that losing a toenail is a right of passage. One I have yet to endure. Maybe after next weekends 22 miles final training run!
and ye ye on the Toenail loss, u will love the low maintenance benefit that follows -lol
Sorry about the foot pain. I have a feeling that this is going to be one of those things that once you do figure it out and fix it, you will never have the problem again.
So..... it is cool and you are a runner and NOT an idiot.
Best of luck,

Good decision on the half! The full marathon will always be out there for ya!!
How great of you that you are willing to stick it out for the 1/2! That's great!
I told the hubby that should my big toe nails fall off them I am going to quit running! lol
I remember my first black toe, I kept making everyone in the family look at my toe!
I totally understand how disappointing it is to have to drop to a shorter distance when your mind is still ready to go long, but your body has a different idea. I think the half sounds totally doable. It is still a great distance, but doubling the time on your feet is not going to make your foot problem better. I agree that building up your base is the thing to do. And losing a toenail is a right of passage. You are definitely a runner now :D
Brag long and hard about the toenail loss, you earned it!
