8 on the 8th Race Report
Yes, Yes, I know, I organized the damn thing and then ran it on the 7th. You got a problem with that? I didn't think so. :D (why did you think I was being so lenient?)
anything pre-recorded to watch. *moment of shock and shear panic* Luckily one of the high def channels had A River Runs Through It just starting. Man, that movie does it for me, unforgettable scenes and photography, sexy boys (back when I actually liked Brad Pitt), a love story and wonderful exchanges. This movie is good for my soul and was exactly what I needed to slog through 8 miles. I also had Man Steak T Shirt Pacer and yes, all of you to keep me going.
Please let me know when you have completed your race and posted. In true data girl geeky form, I'm starting a spreadsheet for the results. I probably won't post final results until Sunday night or Monday to give everyone time.
I'll leave you with Norman Maclean from the movie:
Each one of us here today will at one time in our lives look upon a loved one who is in need and ask the same question: We are willing to help, Lord, but what, if anything, is needed? For it is true we can seldom help those closest to us. Either we don't know what part of ourselves to give or, more often than not, the part we have to give is not wanted. And so it those we live with and should know who elude us. But we can still love them - we can love completely without complete understanding.
GOOD LUCK, EVERYONE, and THANKS for JOINING ME!!

Now I had to move mine to Sunday. LOL
AWESOME JOB CHICA!!!!! ;D ;D ;D
Bummer that you won't be running it tomorrow with the rest of us, though. I am excited but a little nervous, as well.
You rock!
I just came in from my 8 (well 9.36 miles.) Full race report on my blog in a bit.
But I ran outside in the blowing snow (ugh), Leaping downed wires in a single bound... (the plow on our street.), avoiding on coming traffic... and covered in salt. (I am starting to think that maybe I am the crazy one.)
Done at 1:38:51. (Split: 49:14 then the wind picked up. What was it my grandmother used to say about wind.)
Of course NOW the sun comes out...
I did my 8 miles this AM and am writing it up on my blog right now. I'll post on the "Results" discussion on the forum, too.
We're really blessed today -- not a cloud in the sky. Hubby and I are currently waking up with a cup of coffee, but we have steel-cut oats cooking on the stove and will be heading out soon. Since we're training for a marathon today's run will be 16-17 miles, but we'll take pictures at the 8- and 16-mile marks. I may be too wiped this afternoon to post (plus we'll be meeting friends tonight for dinner), so I may not have my race report posted until tomorrow.
I am done with my "8 on the 8th" at 1:06:31.
Enjoy my blog report!
Thanks for doing this, I was definitely looking forward to it all week. The next one I'll be running the entire thing :)
My report is up.
Will there be a 9 on the 9th next months?? wink wink. nudge nudge.
Thanks for spearheading this, Nancy! It was a brutal run for me, due to a nasty cold wind, but I enjoyed it knowing it was run with all my blogging buddies.
Oh, I'm done my 8. Details are in my blog.
When can we run again?
My report post is up. The short version: I finished the 8 in 1:45, and if you are breaking it down remember I am in the new new age division of 50!
I'm a DNF :-( But it's all good. =)
I learned about your race from my brother-in-law Topher. Thanks for the challenge! This was the farthest I had run since my first marathon this past October. It felt so great to run longer today. My time was 1:21:03.
-Susan from WA state
Does that count?
I completed my 8 miles this morning in 1:07:42.
w00t! w00t!
Anyone up for 12 on the 12th in January?
My race report is up.
Thanks for organizing this, and great work everyone who ran! What a cool event.
Dave
By the way, for your results spreadsheet, I ran mine in 1:05:55(8:14 pace). I had to move it to the 9th (so 8 on the weekend of the 8th) because of the hike that went way longer than I thought (18.3 miles!).
Great job Nancy! I couldt make a run on the 8th due to some scheduling, and a week off from running meant I couldnt knock down 8 miles. I was in rest-mode after our 11 miler last weekend that wiped me out.
I opted for 5 on the 9th ;) Not that it counts for much, but it got me out and moving!!!
Sorry for the late report... I was up at my parent's cottage for the weekend with no computer:-(
Anyway, my 8 was in 49:18. I've been doing these interval 8's alot lately and it felt good to just run at one pace.
Thanks for allowing me to participate in what I expect will become a huge event.
Way to kick off the big 8 race for all of us, Nancy! :)
