Just Try
Do you remember just a few short days ago when I was answering questions about whether or not a tri was in my future, and I said I thought I needed some more time? Well apparently I need about 10 days. :P
I'm scared, nervous and excited, but then I figured, it's not like life or death here, right? This will be fun, especially with Amy. It's about a mile or two from my house, in the pool I was doing some laps at!! You can schedule it to your own convenience during the week. And it's $25 for St. Jude's Hospital, for heaven's sake. How can I not do this, right? (it's like Marcy with free shipping and a coupon code, how can you not?) Let's just see if I can do all the legs and have some fun. (.25m swim, 10m bike, 3m run) I seriously don't even know if I CAN run 3 miles after 10 on the bike...omg.omg.omg.
My hub first said, "COOL!" and then said, "well, maybe this one is more of a 'TRY' " :D You got that right.
I signed up and the gal said there were quite a few "competitors." **GULP*** omg.omg. I told her I was more of a "participant" :P
So, tri-stars, what should I be doing for the next 10 days?? HELP!!!! omg.omg.omg.

You can totally do this!!!
I know you are going to rock it!!
AND you are going to be hooked on tri!!!!
YOU CAN SOOOOOOOOO DO THIS NANCY!!! I have no doubts in my mind, and you'll LOVE IT!! And even you if hate it (which I HIGHLY doubt) you're doing it for a wonderful cause and doing it with cool peeps so really it's a win/win situation. GO NANCY!! I'm really excited for you!
You're gonna do great!
Given your worries, maybe do one bike-run brick beforehand just for the psychological benefit?
You can totally do it...and it is for a good cause, your health and St. Judes....you go girllllll!!!!
I'm so excited....for YOU~
So exciting.
Plus such a great charity. That's who I raised money for my first marathon.
I guess the gods heard you and now you have no excuses:)
:-D
1.) Buy Total Immersion
2.) Get some Triathlete books from the library. Pick your fav. training plan (which can be as fun as picking out shoes if you really get into it)
3.) "Wow" us a little bit more :-)
You're amazing Nancy :-)!!!!
Michelle
Seriously, you'll be fine. I didn't train for my first one except some running. I did no bike/run combo and walked most of the 3 miler, but I didn't care. if you really like it, train for your next one. You're gonna do fantastic!!!!
Here's a newbies tri training program. Check it out.

You can do this. Pigman is in Palo, Iowa in August. Commit yourself. No time like NOW!
My tip - over the next few days, do a few short rides on the bike (maybe 20-30 minutes) and then jump off and do 5-15 minutes on the treadmill. A bike/run workout is called a "brick" for a reason - but your legs adapt pretty quickly and you will feel strong through that run.
And we are doing it just to have fun. we will crawl those 33 laps if we have to.
I know I can't help you with this one because these Carter legs stay on dry ground... out of necessity. Seriously though, you are going to do just fine.. you are a runner first and foremost and that gives you a HUGE advantage over the Tri people.
Cranky
You can do it!!!!
Kidding. You'll do great, but I know nothing about tri-training so I can't help with any advice.
